I'm hoping that a mod will see this and sticky it. It will come in handy for anyone looking to replace the stock speakers, headunit, or amplifier. I put the information together out of curiosity, and now I'd like to share it with as many people as possible. I thought the OP of a new thread would be the easiest way to make sure it is properly tagged and found via SEO.

I looked at the service manual, and it seems that the VT outputs SP-DIF to the external amp, which is mounted under the passenger's seat.

Speaker Channel Location Connector Pin+ Pin- COLOR+ COLOR-
Center Dashboard Middle Amp B 7 15 Lt.Blue/Orange Green/Black
Front Left Midrange Driver's Door Lower Amp C 6 12 Orange Lt.Blue/Black
Front Left Tweeter Driver's Door Upper Amp C 4 10 Pink/Blue Orange/Black
Front Right Midrange Passenger's Door Lower Amp C 5 11 Lt.Blue/Orange Yellow/Black
Front Right Tweeter Passenger's Door Upper Amp C 3 9 White/Orange Green/Orange
Rear Left Rear Quarter Middle Amp C 2 8 Pink Green
Rear Right Rear Door Middle Amp C 1 7 Brown White
*Subwoofer L Trunk, Middle Driver's Side Amp A 12 25 Green/Orange Lt.Blue
*Subwoofer R See Notes Amp A 13 26 Brown White

*NOTES* :
1)THERE IS ONLY ONE SUBWOOFER, it takes 4 wires. The service manual lists it as "Switch1+/-" and "Switch2+/-"
2)The documentation refers to the tweeter-position speakers as "midrange" and the midrange speakers as "door". I've corrected for this in my documentation already. You can verify it for yourself, but I'm confident that mine is accurate.

Ok now any one have an idea if they make a kit for aftermarket head units?? Or is there a possible way to hook an aftermarket amp and subs to the existing system?

Naw, I'm just a nerd who believes in the free exchange of knowledge. I also get to experience firsthand the frustration that is "lack of, or inaccurate, documentation" with my job. Accordingly, I want anything I post to be as accurate as possible. I love my car and I know you guys love yours, so I want to help us all help one another <3

gosh I sound lame. But it's true.

If anyone has any stereo related questions, feel free to ask me. I've done a ton of stuff to my stereo including 2 12's and 2600 watts rms.

From the attachment the output of the head unit is SP-DIF. To use the amp with another HU, SP-DIF output is required. Similarly, A different amp would require SP-DIF input unless it is piggy backed behind the existing amp using line converters.

From what I understand there is no amplifier in the factory Dimension head unit. Output is in SP-DIF only, thus requiring the amp to drive the speakers. Base model head unit has built in amplifiers.

Hello! I've been unable to find this information for the base model stereo (non Dimension, without an amp). I am planning on adding a JBL MS-8 processor and need to know which wires to cut. I found a service manual, but is only shows the Dimension stereo connections. Thanks!

Hello Hashi,
I know that the Dimension System claims to be 450 watts but what is the actual power out put if I just wanteed to put in aftermarket I would know which to choos looking at the power handling of the speaker . I had hyundai replace my 4 surround speaker which took 2 months due to back order issues from getting speaker from Korea. I dealt with NW Region and my local dealer to get this done. I just want to ensure the problem is fixed forever with quality speaker which I was going to go HAT Audio but then cost is more like Infinity or ever Alpine for now. I have a good friend that is going to do the install and he was looking to me for the actual wattage output to make the right choose. I think that Hyundai should have got with an actual brand name to supply the speakers for the vehicle like most other manufactures pushing a premium Audio system not just put speaker in and hope people don't listen to there music loud for extended amounts of ime to just have there speakers fail. Thanks for your attention in this matter.

I have no found that there are several companies that make aftermarket wiring harnesses for custom deck installations as well us modifying the factory head unit wiring output. Schosche.com and Sonci Electronics have both adapters. I bough both to create my own wiring set up as I don't like splicing wires in the dash......it gets messy. I don't have the Dimension System, just the base system. Make sure you get a good line output adapter/converter or sound processor. LC6 is a good all around converter......a little spendy, but well worth it!! Also I have found an incredible set of door speakers that will really rock your system, even with the base unit set-up. The brand is called Focal. I hadn't heard of them up until a couple of years ago. I wouldn't have bought them if I hadn't heard them side by side compared to Alpine, Fosgate, Infinity, Kicker, Pioneer, JL, etc. They made all the difference in the world!! These are great for all types of music....even rap/r&b!! They actually put out some descent base for such a small speaker. The sound is crisp and clean as well. The 6" components (Front) and Coaxials (Back) bolted right into the factory holes with no modifications. All I can say is find a dealer that caries these and listen for yourself!! You won't be disappointed, I'm not!! :)

So technically these are line level outputs from the headunit to the amp?? (Sorry I'm old school installer) can I just tap some rca ends on the wires coming from the h/u into the amp and use those as the input for my new amp? Or have things changed that much in the few years I have been away?

If you have the upgraded audio system (Dimension), then I believe it uses SPDIF instead of RCA from headunit to the stock amp.

If you're like me and just have the base model, then to add an amp you would have to either tap into the speaker wires from the headunit or the speakers themselves if you don't want to take out the headunit.

You can tap into the wires and convert them into RCA, that's what I plan on doing. Just need a line level converter.
